China Meteorological Administration and Hikvision Discuss Strengthening Technological Innovation Collaboration

On August 6, Bi Baogui, a member of the Party leadership and deputy director of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and a delegation led by Hu Yangzhong, chairman of Hikvision, engaged in discussions aimed at further enhancing cooperation in technology application and research & development (R&D) within the realm of artificial intelligence.

CMA-Hikvision Meeting

Bi Baogui expressed appreciation for Hikvision's technical prowess, emphasizing that the growth and advancement of the meteorological industry are intrinsically linked to the continuous enhancement of technological innovation. The CMA is prioritizing the transition and development of meteorological operations towards smarter, digital formats. Hikvision, with its strengths in IoT perception, intelligent observation, and other domains, has been an active participant in the modernization of meteorology for an extended period. There exists substantial potential for collaboration between the two entities. It is anticipated that both parties will build upon their existing foundation of cooperation, intensify joint scientific and technological research, and contribute to the modernization of meteorological science and technology capabilities, as well as social services. Looking ahead, based on technological innovations such as IoT perception, artificial intelligence, and big data, it is hoped that they will unlock greater value across diverse application scenarios.

Hu Yangzhong noted that as a technology company dedicated to innovation, Hikvision is acutely aware of the intelligent development needs of the meteorological industry. In recent years, the company has been involved in various projects, including the construction of the "Key Open Laboratory for Intelligent Observation of Sea Fog" initiated by the CMA, research on the application of national meteorological live monitoring video networking, national surface meteorological intelligent observation, and the upgrade of national intelligent automatic weather stations. Hikvision has amassed substantial experience in the meteorological field. The company intends to further deepen the integration and innovation of AI, big data, and IoT technologies, striving to provide the meteorological industry with high-precision, high-reliability, and intelligent observation technical support. This endeavor is expected to aid in the continuous improvement of meteorological service capabilities, enabling precise meteorological services and effective disaster prevention and mitigation.

CMA Facilities Visit

Hu Yangzhong and his delegation also visited relevant business units of the CMA to gain insights into the development of the meteorological industry, forecasting operations, meteorological film and television services, and other pertinent aspects.

The talks were attended by Liang Feng, director of the Prediction and Network Department of the CMA; Fang Xiang, director of the Comprehensive Observation Department; Liu Bo, deputy director of the Emergency Disaster Reduction and Public Service Department; Zang Haijia, deputy director of the Science and Technology and Climate Change Department; Xiao Wenming, director of the National Meteorological Information Center; and Zhang Chaolin, deputy director of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. Additionally, He Fengpian, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Bureau, and Chen Yefeng, director of the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Meteorological Sciences, accompanied the delegation during the inspection. From Hikvision, Wang Yingjie, vice president and president of the Government Business Department; Cai Yangqi, general manager of the meteorological industry; Hua Qiang, general manager of solutions for the Government Business Department; Hao Mingfeng, director of the Government Business Department of the Beijing Business Center; and others also participated in this inspection.
