Coincidences sometimes defy imagination. Following Samsung's hint yesterday about launching its first tri-foldable screen phone on July 9, Huawei today announced a 2,000 yuan price reduction across all Mate XT models. According to the latest insider information, the price adjustments were uniformly implemented at midnight on Thursday, indicating Huawei's well-prepared strategy. Besides addressing Samsung's challenge, this move might also signal the imminent release of Huawei's next-generation tri-foldable screen phone. The Mate XT has once again proven that exceptional products never lack buyers.
Currently, on official channels, despite the 2,000 yuan price reduction, the Mate XT's starting price still stands at 17,999 yuan, deterring many users. However, given the vast domestic mobile phone user base, there are still those who are not price-sensitive. All three red storage versions are sold out, leaving only black 16GB+512GB and 16GB+1TB versions available. Official channel price reductions are relatively rare, especially when the Mate 70 maintains its original price.
Reviewing the sales history of the Mate XT, the initial rush to buy was unprecedented in the domestic mobile phone market. Wealthy users spared no expense to experience it firsthand. Some lucky buyers resold their units upon receipt, easily earning a profit of several thousand yuan. Some even posted resale information online before receiving their devices. Despite a price increase of several thousand yuan, demand exceeded supply.
At the time, some people queued for hours to experience the Mate XT in physical stores, a scenario only seen with highly anticipated products. Due to limited quantities and user enthusiasm, the Mate XT maintained a stable price increase on third-party platforms long after its launch. Only when the initial fervor subsided did prices return to normal. The Mate XT is undoubtedly one of the most resilient domestic mobile phones in terms of pricing in recent years.
Opinions on the Mate XT are mixed. While some support it, others ridicule it. However, its innovative nature is undeniable. For those hoping for a price drop to conventional straight-plate model levels, such a prospect does not exist. Frankly, based on current user preferences, the vast majority are not the target audience for the Mate XT.
Personally, I believe that besides regular sales, the Mate XT serves as a significant technology showcase. It demonstrates to the world that only a handful of manufacturers globally can design such products, significantly enhancing brand value.
Now, the question arises: Can Samsung's upcoming tri-foldable screen phone, set to be launched in a few days, compete with Huawei in sales?
