As a globally acclaimed tourist destination, Guilin contends with a diverse blend of daily commuter traffic, tourist-related travel, and freight movements. This convergence places immense pressure on traffic flow at major urban thoroughfares and pivotal intersections. The erstwhile fixed-timing signal control system frequently resulted in issues like secondary vehicle queuing and inefficient green light utilization, significantly diminishing road traffic efficiency and detracting from the public's travel experience. The intersection of Kaifeng Road and Wanfu Road in Xiangshan District, a vital nexus linking crucial transportation routes such as Lingui New District, Yangshuo Scenic Area, and Qixing District, stands as a central transportation hub in Guilin. Historically, traffic congestion at this junction was particularly acute, necessitating urgent measures to address traffic bottlenecks (zhì lǐ, meaning 'treatment' or 'management').
Recently, Hikvision collaborated with the Traffic Management Detachment of the Guilin Public Security Bureau to undertake the intelligent upgrade of traffic facilities at the Kaifeng Road and Wanfu Road intersection. The traffic signals at this junction have been outfitted with a cutting-edge global sensing intelligent control system, endowing them with the capability for intelligent decision-making. This system can dynamically monitor traffic flow in real-time and autonomously adjust signal timings, leading to substantial enhancements in traffic optimization.

Previously, the intersection of Kaifeng Road and Wanfu Road in Xiangshan District grappled with numerous challenges related to traffic flow and management: During peak morning and evening hours, traffic volume surged, causing frequent secondary queuing for vehicles traveling straight and turning left in both north-south and east-west directions, resulting in sluggish traffic movement. Phases such as left turns in the east-west direction often experienced idle green light periods, leading to unnecessary losses in the intersection's traffic capacity. The traditional fixed-timing model lacked adaptability and failed to respond to real-time fluctuations in traffic flow on the road.

Leveraging radar-vision fusion sensing technology and intelligent signal control algorithms, Hikvision assisted the Traffic Management Detachment of the Guilin Public Security Bureau in achieving refined and intelligent control: Real-time monitoring of traffic flow across the entire intersection, accurately assessing actual traffic conditions in each lane and direction. Dynamically and flexibly allocating green light durations, extending traffic periods during peak hours and compressing them during periods of low traffic volume to maximize the utilization of traffic resources. Balancing vehicle queue lengths across lanes, effectively preventing traffic conflicts, and simultaneously ensuring the safety of pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles. Optimizing control and operation modes, streamlining the setup of two intelligent operation plans for peak and off-peak hours, with the system automatically switching to adapt to road conditions.

Following the implementation of the smart transportation upgrade, the improvements in traffic flow at the intersection were immediately noticeable: During peak morning and evening travel times, vehicle speeds increased by 6.98%, waiting times at the intersection decreased by 31.31%, and the one-time vehicle release rate reached 91.49%, largely eliminating secondary queuing congestion. During off-peak daytime hours, vehicle speeds increased by 1.83%, waiting times at the intersection decreased by 26.62%, and there were no idle green light periods, resulting in efficient utilization of traffic resources and a one-time vehicle release rate of 91.47% (based on project field test data).
Now, when traveling through this intersection, whether for daily commuting, picking up children, or heading to tourist destinations such as Yangshuo Scenic Area or Yanshan University Town, shorter queues, reduced waiting times, and faster passage are achievable. Persistent traffic issues such as secondary queuing and idle green light periods that previously hindered travel have been effectively resolved.
Transitioning from traditional fixed-timing waiting to intelligent, dynamic, and precise vehicle release, the smart upgrade of the intersection at Kaifeng Road and Wanfu Road not only enhances urban road traffic efficiency and control intelligence but also represents a significant step in Guilin's efforts to establish itself as an internationally renowned tourist city and improve its modern smart transportation system. It ensures that residents can travel with ease and that tourists can enjoy a seamless and pleasant experience.
