On October 29, Geely Automobile (00175.HK) released its third-quarter report on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, showing growth in both revenue and profit, with profit growth clearly outpacing revenue growth.
Amid stock-market competition and sustained price competition in China's passenger vehicle market, profit growth significantly outpaced revenue growth, with product mix upgrading and overseas export volume emerging as the core drivers.
Profit Growth Accelerates
In the first three quarters of 2026, Geely Automobile recorded revenue of RMB 272.564 billion, up 13% year on year; net profit attributable to shareholders rose 7% year on year to RMB 13.928 billion; core net profit attributable to shareholders reached RMB 14.896 billion, up 41% year on year.
In the third quarter of 2026 alone, Geely Automobile posted operating revenue of RMB 98.964 billion, up 10% year on year; profit attributable to owners of the parent was RMB 4.837 billion, up 28% year on year; core net profit attributable to shareholders was RMB 5.212 billion, up 32% year on year.

The core profit growth rate far exceeds the reported net profit attributable to shareholders, largely due to the reversal of foreign exchange gains and losses.
In the first three quarters of 2026, Geely Automobile recorded a net foreign exchange loss of RMB 1.126 billion, compared with a net gain of RMB 3.337 billion in the same period last year. Excluding this non-operating disturbance, the profit growth of the core business is even more pronounced.
Gross profit margin corroborates this assessment. In the first three quarters of 2026, Geely Automobile's overall gross profit margin stood at 18%, up 1.5 percentage points year on year.
On the sales front, cumulative sales in the first three quarters of 2026 reached 2.2355 million vehicles, up 3% year on year, of which third-quarter sales totaled 812,500 vehicles, up 7% year on year. Revenue growth outpaced sales growth, reflecting an increase in average revenue per vehicle.
A quarterly breakdown clearly illustrates the pace of profit recovery. In the first half of 2026, competition in the domestic auto market was intense, and automakers broadly traded promotions for sales volume. Geely also bore greater expense pressure, and profit growth was relatively flat.
Entering the third quarter of 2026, the delivery share of high-value models increased, and rapid expansion in overseas exports released the benefits of product mix improvement, driving a substantial acceleration in single-quarter profit.
It should be noted, however, that vehicle performance exhibits strong seasonality. High single-quarter profit growth does not mean the growth trend can continue unconditionally. Going forward, it is necessary to continuously track gross profit margin, terminal sales, and overseas market deliveries.
The profit logic of the vehicle industry has changed. The era of driving profits solely through sales scale is gradually passing. Product mix, per-vehicle gross profit, and overseas market returns now jointly determine automakers' profit elasticity.
The core highlight of Geely Automobile's financial report is precisely the divergence between revenue and profit growth, along with clear signals of improvement in profit quality.
Multi-Brand Matrix Takes Shape
Geely Automobile currently operates four major brands in parallel. Zeekr, Lynk & Co, Geely Galaxy, and China Star cover price ranges from family fuel vehicles and mainstream hybrids to premium pure electric vehicles, forming a tiered product lineup and dispersing the risk of fluctuations in any single segment.
In the first three quarters of 2026, Geely Galaxy delivered 877,200 vehicles cumulatively. As the main volume-driving segment, it stabilized the sales base in the domestic household new energy vehicle market. Zeekr delivered 288,400 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 101%, with an average price per vehicle above RMB 300,000. The share of premium models continued to rise, making it the core segment driving up the overall gross profit margin.
Lynk & Co sales in the first three quarters reached 196,100 vehicles, with new energy penetration hitting 71.5%, balancing the existing fuel vehicle market and electrification transformation. The China Star series sold 873,800 vehicles, relying on fuel vehicle models to continue contributing stable cash flow and supporting investment in new energy research and development.
In terms of powertrain technology routes, Geely Automobile has not bet solely on the pure electric track. Hybrid and methanol power are advancing simultaneously. The SEA Haohan architecture and the full-domain AI intelligent system continue to iterate, and intelligent cockpits and advanced driver assistance systems are gradually being installed on new models, creating product differentiation.
The advantage of the multi-brand strategy lies in covering a broader consumer base, but operations require continuous investment in research and development, channels, and marketing resources. Multi-brand management places higher demands on cost control capabilities.
Geely Automobile's operating approach has shifted from "chasing sales volume" to "emphasizing both volume and price"—that is, defending share in the domestic market while undertaking the output of high-margin models in overseas markets.
This shift is directly reflected in the export structure. In the first three quarters of 2026, overseas exports reached 797,700 vehicles, a sharp increase of 169% year on year, of which new energy vehicle exports totaled 484,100 vehicles, accounting for 61% of exports.
The significance of exports lies not only in scale but also in profit quality. Geely Automobile CFO Dai Yong revealed that the overall gross profit of export products is about 10 percentage points higher than that in the domestic market, and the gross profit margin in overseas markets is approximately 22% to 25%.
The underlying framework supporting brand division of labor and export expansion is the implementation of the "One Geely" strategy.
In August 2026, Geely Automobile Group Sales Co., Ltd. was established, with six first-tier sales companies including China Star, Galaxy, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr. Previously, equity integrations—such as the merger of Geometry into Galaxy and Zeekr's acquisition of Lynk & Co and privatization and delisting—were completed between 2024 and 2025.
The integration effect has already been reflected on the expense side. In the third quarter of 2026, the selling expense ratio fell to 5.6%, the administrative expense ratio fell to 1.6%, and the research and development investment ratio fell to 5.5%.
Globalization Offsets Competition
China's passenger vehicle market has entered the stock competition stage. New energy penetration continues to rise, market competition has shifted from seizing incremental growth to competing for existing share, and terminal price competition continues to suppress the overall industry profit margin.
The share of traditional fuel vehicles is slowly shrinking. Automakers must continue to invest in electrification and intelligent research and development. New product development and technological iteration bring continuous capital expenditure, posing a test to corporate cash flow.
Under the industry environment, Geely Automobile's operating resilience is of reference significance.
Compared with many new energy vehicle companies in the industry that are still in a state of loss or meager profit, Geely Automobile—relying on accumulated vehicle manufacturing experience, a complete supply chain system, and a mature channel network—maintains stable profitability during the transformation stage, which is also the core advantage of traditional leading OEMs.
In the medium and long term, intelligent electrification remains the main line of the industry. Companies with self-developed technology, multi-brand matrices, and global channel capabilities are more likely to ride through industry cycles.
However, challenges also objectively exist.
Domestic new products continue to be launched intensively. Once market demand weakens, vehicle gross profit margins will face downward pressure. Overseas market expansion requires facing multiple tests such as regulations of various countries, tariff barriers, localized plant construction, and local brand competition, and the pace of profit realization is uncertain. The capital market is also continuously observing the profit stability of new energy vehicle models and the realization of overseas business.
Overall, in the first three quarters of 2026, Geely Automobile achieved growth in both revenue and profit, with Q3 profit growth rising sharply. Premium models and overseas exports jointly contributed incremental profit. In the stock competition environment of the auto market, Geely relied on its multi-brand system to achieve improvement in operating quality.
It should also be noted that industry competition has not ended, and changes in domestic demand and overseas policies will bring uncertainty. The subsequent landscape of the vehicle industry will continue to evolve with intelligent iteration and changes in the global trade environment.
The focus of competition among automakers is also gradually shifting from price wars to a comprehensive contest of technology, brands, and globalization systems.
