When discussing the most glorious period for 'scalpers' in recent years, undoubtedly, it was the "surprise" brought by Huawei's tri-fold phone, the Mate XT. Initially, the third-party's insane price hikes were unprecedented, with some prices even surging to unreasonable levels of up to 100,000 yuan. If resold at the right time, substantial profits could indeed be made. It's unclear if the "glorious achievements" on the Mate XT gave 'scalpers' a false sense that the Mate 70 series would also be profitable, leading them to stock up in advance, but reality dealt them a heavy blow.
Firstly, on the first day of sale, the Mate 70 series participated in a national subsidy program in Jiangsu, with a 15% subsidy attracting many users. Of course, this had nothing to do with the official channels or platforms and was limited to Jiangsu only. At this point, 'scalpers' could still comfort themselves. However, recently, a Huawei executive mentioned in an interview that necessary measures had been taken to ensure that Mate 70 series models reached users who genuinely needed them, further collapsing the psychological defense of 'scalpers'.
Additionally, online news revealed that due to overwhelming sales, Huawei had increased orders for the Mate 70 series by 30%, implying a more abundant supply in the future. Even if certain models temporarily sell out, restocking timelines will be shortened, signaling an already "very unfavorable" situation. The final straw for 'scalpers' came when on the PDD's hundred-billion subsidy channel, the Mate 70 was not labeled as "pre-order" and had no shipping deadlines, proving it was available for immediate purchase, naturally sparking a frenzy among users. Currently, the 12GB+256GB version is sold out, but the 12GB+512GB and 12GB+1TB versions are still in stock.
I checked self-operated stores and flagship stores, and found that reservations were still required. The official store also mostly indicated the need for flash sales, indicating that inventory was available but would be released during specific time periods. Users in Jiangsu could naturally compete for the subsidized inventory, while users in other regions would need to explore multiple channels to purchase the Mate 70. Currently, availability is the greatest promotional measure.
Online reports suggest that Huawei's expected inventory for the Mate 70 series is 17 million units, significantly surpassing the previous generation. Huawei understands that the initial period is crucial for sales spikes, not only ensuring profits but also capturing users' interest primarily during this time. As time passes, third-party platforms rely on price cuts to maintain sales. Therefore, for popular models like the Mate 70 series, the benefits of stocking up initially are obvious.
Everyone knows that the Mate 70 series's biggest attraction is its pre-installed HarmonyOS. However, considering the long term, most models are shipped with version 4.3 (compatible with Android) due to a slightly lagging ecosystem and incompletely adapted apps. As mentioned before, to motivate developers to adapt more actively, Huawei needs to expand its test models as soon as possible. Currently, the nova 12 Ultra has joined the public beta test of native HarmonyOS, and it is believed that subsequent testing progress will gradually accelerate.
If the supply of the Mate 70 series gradually becomes sufficient, how many of you would be willing to give it a try?
