Have you noticed that, in recent years, the growing popularity of new energy vehicles (NEVs) has led many people to opt for spacious NEVs for long-distance travel? One of the primary reasons for choosing NEVs is that, compared to traditional fuel vehicles, they are equipped with large battery packs and high-power external discharge capabilities. This makes it entirely feasible to skip hotel stays during long self-drive trips.

Whether it's camping and cooking or resting in the vehicle with the air conditioning on, the convenience is unparalleled. Consequently, in recent years, numerous automakers have set their sights on this market and begun launching spacious NEVs. One automaker that has invested significant effort in this area is Beijing Automobile Works (BAW), which has specifically created a spacious pure electric small RV.

It's important to clarify that the Beijing Automobile Works mentioned here is not the current Beijing Automobile but the one acquired by Shandong Weiqiao Chuangfu Group. Its nature has transitioned from state-owned to private, and its headquarters has relocated from Beijing to Shandong. It currently operates four major production bases in Qingdao, Dezhou, Linyi, and Huanghua and owns several automotive brands, including 212, Yuanbao, Xiaobuding, Jingka, and Ruisheng. Among these, the 212 off-road vehicle is relatively well-known, while the Yuanbao has been discontinued. Ruisheng focuses on MPV models, and the protagonist of this article, the Vala Pro, is associated with the Ruisheng brand.

Currently, Ruisheng offers two main model series: the Ruisheng M8 and the Ruisheng Ace 7, both available in fuel and pure electric variants. The Vala Pro is built on the foundation of the pure electric version of the Ruisheng Ace M7.

If you're unfamiliar with Ruisheng models, that's perfectly understandable. These models currently have a minimal presence in the domestic MPV market due to their lackluster sales. Take the pure electric version of the Ruisheng Ace M7, for example: its best-selling month in the past six months was April this year, with only 315 units sold. The worst month was February, with a mere 82 units sold. Given these sales figures, it's easy to see why they're not widely recognized. In terms of pricing, the pure electric version of the Ruisheng Ace M7 is surprisingly affordable. As a mid-to-large-sized pure electric MPV, its starting price is just 82,800 yuan, making it cheaper than small pure electric vehicles like the Dolphin and Xingyuan.

Given their affordability yet poor sales, Beijing Automobile Works had to devise a solution. In April 2024, the Vala Pro model, jointly developed by Beijing Automobile Works and Wu Yi Automobile, was officially launched. Positioned as a pure electric small RV, it is based on the pure electric version of the Ruisheng Ace M7 and has an official guide price of 248,000 yuan.

However, this model has since been discontinued. The two currently available models are the Retro Edition, launched in December 2024, and the Fashion Edition, launched in December 2025, both priced at 268,000 yuan.

In terms of body dimensions, the Vala Pro is essentially identical to the pure electric version of the Ruisheng Ace M7, with the same body length of 5,240 mm and wheelbase of 3,200 mm. The only difference is the increased body height, from 1,950 mm to 2,075 mm.

Regarding power, the Vala Pro matches the 505KM 7-Seater Flagship model of the pure electric version of the Ruisheng Ace M7, which has an official guide price of 156,800 yuan. It is equipped with a rear-mounted single motor and an 81-kWh EVE lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a pure electric range of 505 kilometers and supporting fast charging.

The most notable differences lie in the added features, such as remote control via a mobile app, adaptive cruise control, front seat ventilation and heating, a stream media rearview mirror, automatic air conditioning, a 220V power outlet, interior ambient lighting, and LED high beams. The seats are arranged in a 4-seater layout, featuring a double-decker space that can be converted into two beds, providing sufficient accommodation for four people to stay overnight. Additionally, it is equipped with essential RV functions, including a tabletop, storage cabinets, a sink, a hot water system, and whole-vehicle underfloor heating.

The Retro Edition is also equipped with a five-inch rear-seat LCD display for multimedia control.

Meanwhile, the three relatively practical features of the pure electric version of the Ruisheng Ace M7—50W wireless phone charging, automatic parking, and energy recovery—have mysteriously vanished in the Vala Pro.
