Nissan, rumored to be bankrupt?

Upon waking up, Nissan had collapsed.

Is Nissan going bankrupt?

I'm sorry, but I didn't say that. It was Nissan Motors that said it.

According to foreign media reports, at least two Nissan executives have confirmed that Nissan Motors is actively seeking new investors. Otherwise, Nissan Motors will go bankrupt within 12 to 14 months, as the estimated cash on hand is only sufficient to sustain operations until then. Without new investors, the company will undoubtedly fail.

Additionally, Nissan Motors' Chief Financial Officer Ma Zhixin is about to step down. Last month, Nissan announced it would cut 9,000 jobs and reduce production capacity by a fifth.

Even more astonishingly, in the second quarter of this year, Nissan Motors' net profit plummeted by 99% year-on-year, from 128.6 billion yen to 995 million yen. In the third quarter, even the last 1% could not be sustained, turning directly into a loss, with a net loss of 9.3 billion yen for the quarter.

Looking at the Chinese market, Nissan Motors' cumulative terminal sales in October this year were 61,170 units, a year-on-year decline of 16.5%. In the first 10 months of this year, Nissan's cumulative terminal sales in China were 558,168 units, a year-on-year decrease of 9.98%.

The main reasons for this decline, apart from the decline in sales of its main models like the X-Trail due to its three-cylinder engine and the continued decline in sales of the Qashqai, is the gradual decline of the iconic Sylphy. Although Sylphy remains a pillar of Dongfeng Nissan's sales, its sales this year have shown a year-on-year decline compared to last year.

Nissan is indeed having a difficult time.

Even so, why does Nissan claim it is on the verge of bankruptcy after only three months of losses? The main reason is that Nissan has lost confidence in its future development. So, is it feasible for Nissan to place its hopes on new investors?

Personally, I think it's difficult. Since Nissan itself has lost hope, others will naturally be even more desperate. Investing in emerging enterprises might be a gamble worth taking, but what is the point of investing in a large and decrepit ship like Nissan?

Conclusion

Therefore, the future of Nissan Motors is difficult to assess.

Heroes are made by the times. Dongfeng Nissan thrived in the wild west days of the automotive industry, creating its own legend. However, now that China's auto market has entered an era of Stock competition (inventory competition), Dongfeng Nissan's once-strong advantages have vanished. If we extend Dongfeng Nissan's timeline, we will find that for a long time, Dongfeng Nissan has been complacent in its 'comfort zone.' Its current predicament is therefore not surprising. As for its future, let's wait and see.
