DJI Stealthily Develops Panoramic Drone: Anticipated Year-End Release to Rival Insta360

On August 4, media reports from Jingxi revealed that DJI is covertly developing a panoramic drone, scheduled for an official launch by the end of the year.

This innovative product is poised to seamlessly integrate the recently introduced Osmo 360 panoramic camera with the Mini series drone, resulting in a cohesive design. The drone's main body is likely to be adapted from the Mini series.

This strategic move signifies that DJI intends to compete head-to-head with Insta360 in an expanded range of sectors.

Prior to this, Insta360 had announced its foray into the drone market, adopting a dual-brand approach.

One brand comprises the "Antigravity" panoramic drone, a collaborative effort with a third party, supporting 8K 360-degree panoramic video recording and weighing in at under 249 grams. It was unveiled in August.

The other brand is Insta360's self-developed HOVER flying camera, positioned as an entry-level Vlog shooting device, directly competing with DJI's DJI Flip.

The competition between the two companies in the panoramic camera realm has already commenced. Following DJI's release of the Osmo 360 panoramic camera, Insta360 promptly initiated a price reduction promotion for the X5 series both domestically and internationally.

With the impending release of DJI's Osmo Nano thumb camera and this panoramic drone in the latter half of the year, the rivalry between Insta360 and DJI is set to intensify.

DJI holds a commanding position in the global drone market, boasting robust technical prowess and market share. Meanwhile, Insta360 has established a strong presence in the panoramic camera field over the years, amassing numerous technical achievements and a loyal user base.

This all-encompassing competition presents a favorable scenario for consumers, as it will offer them a broader array of products to choose from. Furthermore, the industry as a whole stands to benefit from the advancements spurred by this healthy rivalry.
