Choosing the Right Processor for Entry-Level Needs: Intel Core Ultra 5 225H vs AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 in a Single Laptop Model

Fast Technology, July 28. The Penba Review Room recently conducted a comparative analysis of the Intel Core Ultra 5 225H and AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processors in the same laptop model. The findings revealed that while both processors offer comparable performance, the Core Ultra 5 225H excels in thermal management.

For this evaluation, Penba selected the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro 14 GT, which comes equipped with either the Intel Core Ultra 5 225H or the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350. Both processors represent entry-level offerings in the current market.

During the benchmarking tests, the processors demonstrated similar capabilities across various metrics. Intel showed marginal speed advantages in some tests, while AMD outperformed in others.

In the Cinebench R23 test, the Core Ultra 5 225H displayed a slight edge at higher power consumption (60-80W), whereas the Ryzen AI 7 350 performed better at lower power levels (10-25W).

Regarding gaming performance, both integrated graphics solutions—the Xe2-based Arc 130T and the RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 860M—had their respective strengths, resulting in a tie in average gaming performance.

However, in terms of thermal efficiency, the Core Ultra 5 225H shone. During the Cinebench R23 high-load test, its temperature remained consistently below 90°C, whereas the Ryzen AI 7 350 approached 100°C, leading to more significant heat accumulation within the chassis.

With its hybrid architecture of 14 cores and 14 threads, the Core Ultra 5 225H boasts a core count advantage, even though most of these are efficiency cores, showcasing substantial performance potential.

In contrast, the Ryzen AI 7 350 is an APU featuring 8 cores and 16 threads, utilizing a mix of 4 Zen 5 and 4 Zen 5c cores, and supporting hyper-threading technology.
