This year has witnessed a remarkable influx of talented professionals into Xiaomi Auto's team.

First, Macau, the Chief Aerodynamic Engineer of Ferrari F1, joined Xiaomi. Following closely, in late May, Chen Guang, the former CTO of FAW Nanjing Research Institute, was also brought on board to lead Xiaomi's autonomous driving perception team.

And just two months later, Xiaomi Auto welcomed another high-profile executive from BMW.

Recently, Kai Langer, the former Head of Design for BMW's i Series, announced on social media his official joining of Xiaomi's team, praising Xiaomi as one of the world's most forward-thinking technology giants.

According to his LinkedIn profile, this design expert did not initially embark on a career in the automotive industry. Instead, he started by designing album covers, illustrating comics, and even participated in a rock band.

It was in July 2003 that he transitioned to BMW, where he spent the next 22 years. During this tenure, he was instrumental in designing BMW's first MegaCity vehicle, the BMW i3, as well as the polarizing oversized "kidney grille" featured on the i4 series.

In an official BMW report, Kai Langer elaborated on his design philosophy, stating, "Every BMW model boasts its own unique kidney grille, and it often takes some time for consumers to adjust to new designs."

Intriguingly, according to automotive blogger @NotZhengXiaokang, Li Tianyuan, the Chief Designer of Xiaomi Auto, previously worked under Kai Langer's supervision as a senior designer in BMW's i series. The duo collaborated on the BMW iX project.

With Kai Langer now joining Xiaomi, he will likely report to Li Tianyuan. Isn't this reminiscent of a plot twist in a satisfying novel, where the protagonist's former leader from BMW becomes their subordinate?
