Upon waking, Xiaomi found itself unexpectedly entangled in a legal battle initiated by a central enterprise.

According to foreign intellectual property news outlet IP Fray, a spokesperson from the Munich I Regional Court revealed that "Datang Mobile" has recently filed three patent infringement lawsuits against Xiaomi.

Specifically, the first patent, numbered EP2237607, pertains to a technology for implementing cell handover. Notably, Samsung has also faced legal action from Datang Mobile over this same patent.

The second patent, EP3713313, concerns an uplink power control method and a mobile communication terminal, while the third patent deals with a method and apparatus for adaptive modulation and coding.

In essence, these patents are fundamental to 4G/5G standards. So, who is Datang Mobile, the company waging this patent war against Xiaomi?

According to Tianyancha, Datang Mobile, founded in 2002, is a prominent player in the industrialization of TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE technologies, holding over 5,000 patents.

In last year's "Global 5G Standard Essential Patent Rankings" released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Datang Mobile ranked tenth with an effective global patent family share of 3.78%, trailing Xiaomi and OPPO.

It is noteworthy that Datang Mobile is a subsidiary of Datang Telecom Technology & Industry Group. Mentioning Datang Telecom may evoke a sense of familiarity among Xiaomi fans.

In late 2014, RDA Microelectronics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Datang Telecom, licensed its SDR1860 platform technology to Pinecone Electronics for 103 million yuan. Pinecone Electronics subsequently completed the hardware design of the Penta S1 and proceeded with its first tape-out.

Given their past collaborations, this patent dispute is likely to culminate in a mutually beneficial settlement.
