As one of the pioneering smartphone manufacturers to delve into AI in China, Honor's AI achievements over the past two years have been evident and have paved the way for mobile AI development. So, what novel innovations did Honor unveil at today's event?

The future of foldable screens extends beyond hardware competition; AI holds equal importance.

Prior to the official start of the event, Honor CEO Li Jian announced the new generation foldable smartphone, Honor Magic V5, at the morning's MWC Shanghai. It stands as not only a potential contender for the "smartest" AI terminal on the market but also the thinnest and lightest foldable smartphone, bar none.

Given such bold claims, let's delve into the noteworthy AI features of the Honor Magic V5.

First, the AI agent on the Magic V5 has transcended the conventional "user demand, terminal response" scheme. It has evolved into a service loop based on these characteristics, transforming AI intelligent terminals from "passive Q&A" to "active service".

Honor initially optimized the phone's various sensors at the system level, enabling multi-modal perception capabilities on the terminal side. Building on this foundation, the phone can now make personalized decisions and take autonomous actions. Today, Honor's intelligent agent YOYO can already achieve some active service scenarios, but determining the next move based on user preferences remains an industry challenge that Honor will inevitably address in the future.

Next is interaction. Currently, AI interaction on mobile phones is still nascent, especially on foldable screen phones where AI has yet to be seamlessly integrated with the folding form factor. However, the Honor Magic V5 leverages the dual-screen advantage of foldable screens to introduce AI dual-screen collaboration functionality.

When users browse travel guides on the left screen, the AI agent on the right simultaneously extracts the itinerary essentials. When working on documents, text is presented on the left, while the AI analyzes in real-time on the right. This "user-centric, AI-assisted" mode not only enhances office efficiency but also makes users acutely aware of AI's presence. The AI dual-screen collaboration maximizes the unique advantages and interaction characteristics of foldable screens, making them the optimal carrier for AI productivity.

Honor's exploration of foldable screen interaction doesn't stop there. The "Ask the Screen" feature was introduced, with highly practical daily life scenarios: when confronted with a medical examination report or financial article filled with technical jargon, users simply need to say "Interpret this report" or "Predict the future trend of this stock," and the AI will identify the data on the left screen and provide an analysis on the right. In essence, it functions as a professional consultant.

Furthermore, leveraging these two features, the Honor Magic V5 pushes "execution" to new heights. Users only need to say "Get a taxi home as soon as possible" to the phone, and it will simultaneously activate multiple platforms to call a taxi and automatically cancel remaining orders based on traffic conditions. When creating a PPT, after inputting the topic, the AI generates content and recommends layout styles, allowing for template customization and editing. From multi-modal perception to intent understanding to tool invocation to global reach, the Honor Magic V5 has truly evolved from "passive intelligence" to "active intelligence".

Lastly, there's the construction of a cross-device ecosystem. The AI ecosystem extends beyond mobile phones to include all current mainstream operating systems like Windows and macOS. Its ambitions are vast, and it is progressively fostering this ecosystem. According to Li Jian, Honor has successfully bridged AI interconnectivity between PCs and mobile phones and will release a series of interconnect software targeting the Apple ecosystem, breaking down barriers between Android, Windows, and Apple.

Of course, besides the upcoming Honor Magic V5, Honor also reiterated their Alpha strategy at the event. The large end-side model and personal knowledge base it embodies will enable personalized intelligent services, and AI technology applications such as multi-agent invocation and cross-brand interconnectivity will further expand the ability to connect and integrate the foldable screen AI ecosystem.

Under the influence of the Alpha strategy, multiple AI terminal devices such as Honor laptops, tablets, headphones, and smart wearable devices, in addition to mobile phones, possess AI capabilities. For instance, the YOYO assistant on the Honor MagicBook Art 14 2025 integrates search, reading, creation, and intelligent control, enabling the Honor laptop to achieve comprehensive AI operation for the first time, ushering in the era of AI PC autonomous driving. The Honor MagicPad 3, through deep integration of AI software and hardware, will be the first in the industry to launch global AI productivity and seamlessly transfer files with iOS, HarmonyOS, and Android phones, providing the best AI tablet experience with a large screen, light weight, and comprehensive AI leadership.

All this is achieved thanks to Honor's end-cloud integrated technical architecture and AI capabilities, along with Honor Internet Services' proactive innovations and explorations in users' commonly used and high-frequency scenarios, enabling AI to be deeply embedded in multiple scenarios and serve users' daily lives.

It's evident that Honor's comprehension of AI has indeed reached the pinnacle of the industry, and their goal is quite straightforward - to make technology more human-centric.

Collaborating with China Mobile to Focus on AI

Honor is not alone in the AI realm. They have long established collaborations with leading players in various fields, including operators and application developers. Today, they once again forged a strategic partnership with China Mobile for AI terminals. This isn't the first time Honor and China Mobile have collaborated, but this partnership aims to further concentrate on product innovation in AI terminals, fostering deeper integration and development of the entire ecosystem.

At the event, Honor CEO Li Jian stated, "The emergence of AI will completely reshape the entire industry landscape." As the world's largest communication service provider, China Mobile, and Honor, as a pioneer in the AI terminal ecosystem, their intensified cooperation will accelerate the evolution of the entire AI field.

China Mobile expressed that the collaboration between Honor and China Mobile aims to create an open and innovative AI terminal ecosystem, thereby introducing a succession of intelligent AI terminal products that can understand users, think independently, and execute relevant commands, setting a benchmark for AI terminals.

The two parties will concentrate on identifying value loops in users' daily high-frequency scenarios and exploring paths for implementing intelligent agent business models. For instance, applications like home assistants, office assistants, and travel assistants will offer an "instant call, instant use" AI experience through Honor terminals, coupled with China Mobile's vast user service system to expedite implementation, allowing AI to genuinely permeate households.

After the press conference, Lei Technology also got a glimpse of the Honor Magic V5 prototype. Despite the thick confidential case on the rear cover, the incredibly thin bezel hinted at its sleekness, appearing thinner than ordinary straight phones even when folded.

Apart from being thinner, although Honor hasn't revealed the specific weight, two observations can be made from the on-site demonstration: First, it stands稳稳当当 on a foam boat when unfolded, indicating a well-balanced overall center of gravity, avoiding the top-heavy feel of some foldable screen phones that provide a subpar experience. Second, the weight speaks volumes.

Regarding other specifications, relevant personnel have already disclosed some data online: Snapdragon 8 Ultra Leading Edition processor, 5950mAh battery, 66W flash charging, 6.45-inch external screen, 7.95-inch 2K resolution LTPO adaptive refresh rate internal screen, 9mm thickness, and a weight of less than 220g.

Combining the new AI agent and hardware specifications announced at this press conference, the Honor Magic V5 emphasizes holistic development. Unlike some vendors that "show off skills," it pays greater attention to the unique "productivity" attributes of foldable screens. As for the final performance, stay tuned for the new product launch conference on July 2, and Lei Technology will promptly produce relevant reports and product reviews.

As one of the earliest mobile phone brands to venture into AI, whether it's the new AI agent or the robust collaboration with China Mobile, Honor's continuous efforts and dedication in the AI field are evident and commendable. It's no exaggeration to say that Honor is currently one of the few vendors that can seamlessly integrate AI and intelligent terminals, offering AI myriad usage scenarios. Lei Technology also believes that in the future, Honor will undoubtedly be at the forefront of the AI market.
