The foldable phone market is poised for exciting new developments, with domestic manufacturers Honor and vivo both preparing to unveil their large-screen foldable devices, each boasting unique selling points. In response, Samsung, as an industry pioneer, is gearing up to release its latest model, the Galaxy Z Fold7, on July 9. The launch, timed for 10:00 AM local time in New York (10:00 PM Beijing time), aims to captivate tech enthusiasts worldwide, although its appeal to Chinese audiences may pale in comparison to Apple's events.
According to leaked information, Samsung has spared no effort in the design of the Galaxy Z Fold7. Notably, the phone's overall thickness has been significantly reduced. Moving from the Z Fold6's substantial 12.1mm to the Z Fold7's svelte 9mm represents a remarkable transformation, positioning it as the thinnest foldable phone globally. This generational leap in thinness underscores Samsung's design prowess and innovation.
Beyond its unprecedented thinness, the Z Fold7 was initially rumored to feature an under-display camera, promising a seamless viewing experience on the inner screen. Given the Z Fold6's inclusion of this technology, it was expected that the Z Fold7 would continue this trend. However, recent renders reveal a single punch-hole design on the inner screen, suggesting the absence of an under-display camera. This omission could be attributed to the camera's performance limitations.
User feedback on the Z Fold6 highlights a disparity in camera quality between the outer and inner screens. While the outer screen's 10-megapixel camera delivers satisfactory selfies, the inner screen's 4-megapixel camera falls short, drawing widespread criticism for its poor quality. This discrepancy with the product's positioning and price necessitates a change.
In terms of camera specifications, the Z Fold7 is expected to upgrade the inner screen camera but maintain similar configurations to the Z Fold6 for other cameras. Additionally, the Z Fold7 boasts unprecedented screen sizes, with the outer screen measuring an impressive 6.5 inches. AI enhancements are also likely to be a key focus. However, battery life may remain a constraint, with a capacity unlikely to exceed 5000mAh, compared to the Z Fold6's 4400mAh.
Despite these limitations, the Galaxy Z Fold7 holds several advantages. Samsung excels in high-end screen technology and hinge design, crucial for foldable phone quality. Coupled with the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 Supreme Customized Edition chip, performance is assured. The absence of the S Pen, possibly contributing to the phone's slim profile, is not surprising given the redundancy of a stylus for gesture-based tasks.
Regarding its competitiveness against domestic foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold7 certainly stands a chance. What are your thoughts on its potential to rival Honor and vivo?
