Just after the May Day holiday, Geely made a groundbreaking announcement in the industry.
On May 7, Geely Automobile Holdings Limited (hereinafter referred to as "Geely Auto") unveiled plans to acquire all issued shares of Zeekr Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. ("Zeekr").
Upon completion of the transaction, Zeekr will fully integrate with Geely Auto.
At that point, Geely will truly embody the concept of "one Geely".
This integration of Geely will be comprehensive, spanning not only brand management but also technological advancements.
01 Brand Integration
Let's begin with the integration at the brand level.
Currently, Geely's passenger car segment employs a dual-track strategy: Geely Auto Group and Zeekr Technology Group.
Geely Auto Group: Encompasses Geely, Geely Galaxy, Radar, Yizhen, and others, targeting the mass market.
Zeekr Technology Group: Combines Lynk & Co and Zeekr, forming a high-end luxury new energy vehicle portfolio.
This setup is already the result of a previous Geely integration.
Now, Geely aims to consolidate resources further, facilitate the reunification of its automotive business, and truly revert to the "one Geely" system.
Under the new organizational structure, each brand will maintain a distinct and clear position:
Zeekr will be positioned as a global luxury technology brand.
Lynk & Co will be positioned as a global high-end new energy brand.
Geely Galaxy and China Star will be positioned as global mainstream brands.
The "one Geely" system will facilitate strategic synergies among Geely's various brands, enhancing its overall competitiveness.
02 Technological Integration
At the technological level, prior to this integration, Geely had already completed the consolidation of its battery and assisted driving businesses.
On April 23, during the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Geely Holding Group finalized the strategic integration of its battery business and officially established Zhejiang Jiyao Tongxing Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jiyao Tongxing).
Geely will develop its own battery cells and produce batteries, achieving self-sufficiency in battery supply.
In the next two years, Jiyao Tongxing's batteries will account for 30% of Geely's new energy vehicle systems.
In the realm of assisted driving, earlier this year in March, Geely introduced its high-level assisted driving solution "Qianli Haohan," employing five plans to cover all Geely models across various price points.
With Zeekr's return, it will further accelerate the concentration of resources in these two key areas of "Big Geely."
Taking the integration of these two major technological domains as a model, it will propel "Big Geely" to further streamline, integrate, and share businesses in other areas such as vehicle mechanical architecture, electronic and electrical architecture, intelligent cabins, electric drive systems, and super electric hybrids.
03 Conclusion
Geely demonstrates a strong sense of crisis, adeptness in situational assessment, and decisiveness. They merge when they say they will, doing so decisively and cleanly. In essence, the objective of returning to "one Geely" is straightforward:
1. To further enhance resource utilization efficiency, eliminate redundant investments, and reduce costs.
2. To further integrate technological advantages, bolster innovation capabilities, and profitability.
3. To deepen brand synergies and fortify Geely's global competitiveness in the field of intelligent new energy vehicles.
Geely Auto will host a performance conference for the first quarter of 2025 on May 15, providing further insights into its latest business developments.
We will continue to monitor this closely.
End.
