FF91 Steps Aside, Jia Yueting's Automotive Saga Welcomes a New 'Protagonist'

Have you noticed that Jia Yueting's automotive odyssey has taken a new turn, with a shift in its leading character? The mythical FF91, which accompanied Jia for over a decade, has ceded the spotlight to FX Super One.

Why this assertion? Let's delve into Jia Yueting's automotive journey and recent developments, and the picture will become clear.

Jia Yueting's automotive saga commenced in 2014 with the establishment of Faraday Future (FF), where he vowed to craft an electric vehicle that would "redefine the future."

At the time, he envisioned the FF91, a super electric vehicle boasting a range of 700 kilometers, a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just over 2 seconds, and an array of cutting-edge features that mesmerized the public.

From 2014 onwards, the FF91 was the focal point of Jia's automotive narrative. It graced various occasions, fulfilling its role as the protagonist, enabling Jia's story to unfold.

Remarkably, whenever FF appeared on the brink of collapse, it miraculously secured another round of funding to stay afloat, allowing the FF91 to maintain its protagonist status.

In 2023, the FF91 finally entered mass production after a decade of anticipation. However, delivering these vehicles proved to be another hurdle. Two years later, only a handful have been delivered.

Clearly, as the protagonist, this delivery performance falls short. It's challenging to craft a compelling story with such disappointing results.

Moreover, once the FF91 entered mass production, its enigmatic aura diminished. After all, what's showcased on a PPT and hasn't materialized always seems the most appealing. Once a dream becomes reality and is found wanting, it's deemed a failure from the start.

We've observed that Jia Yueting has scaled back promotion of the FF91 over the past year. He realizes that no amount of promotion can salvage a protagonist that has lost its viability.

Thus, Jia Yueting sought a new 'protagonist.' In the latter half of last year, he announced the launch of a second brand, FX, promising a car with "double the performance and half the price," priced at $30,000 to $50,000 for high-volume sales.

This year, he introduced the first FX vehicle, FX Super One, as his new 'protagonist.'

Recently, he's already showcased this new protagonist in three notable deals. First, a 1,000-unit order with JC Auto in New York, followed by a 300-unit order with Skyhorse Auto in California, and shortly after, a 600-unit order with NEW PBB AUTO in Los Angeles.

These three performances suggest that his new protagonist has already garnered 1,900 orders, giving the impression of impending success.

However, everyone understands that these dealerships aren't naive. How could they place orders for a car that hasn't even been released, especially one from Jia Yueting, based solely on a pre-release PPT? Is it because there are no other cars to sell in the US? It's merely a show, nothing more.

We can confidently predict that when the FX Super One finally hits the market, it might face the same fate as the FF91 – a failure from the start. Like the FF91, no one will buy it, and Jia Yueting will need to find yet another 'protagonist' to sustain his narrative...

For Jia Yueting and the capital backing him, the automotive venture cannot falter. If it does, he's finished, with no further opportunities. As long as it stands, there's still hope. Hence, they continue to weave stories. If one 'protagonist' falters, they replace it. If the next one fails, they change again, until they succeed in making a 'protagonist' popular... Of course, there's also the possibility that they'll never succeed. What do you think?
