Has the threshold for "car manufacturing" vanished? The emergence of Goldfish Motors might even make industry giants like Huawei and Xiaomi feel overshadowed.

At the 13th Zhengzhou New Energy Vehicles, PV & ESS Exhibition 2025, a company named Goldfish Motors made a splash, claiming to utilize solid-state batteries and produce vehicles reminiscent of Porsche. Ironically, this company started out as a rat poison seller.

Despite lacking auto manufacturing qualifications, Goldfish Motors asserts its collaboration with Haima New Energy.

Promptly responding to this claim, Haima New Energy issued a statement on June 11, vehemently denying any cooperation with Goldfish Motors and threatening legal action to protect its rights, reserving the right to pursue further legal responsibilities.

What is the background of Goldfish Motors, and what are its intentions behind this public spectacle? Proceed with caution and avoid falling prey to its antics.

On June 11, Haima New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Haima New Energy") posted a statement on its official WeChat account: "Recently, we have noticed media reports claiming that Henan Goldfish Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as 'Goldfish Motors') has a cooperative relationship with us, which is false information. To avoid any misunderstandings, we hereby issue this clarification statement."

What is Goldfish Motors' background that provoked such a fierce reaction from Haima New Energy? In fact, there is a tenuous "connection" between the two companies.

Haima New Energy, founded on January 7, 1980, with its headquarters at No. 1689, Hanghai East Road, Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, is a subsidiary of Haima Automobile Co., Ltd., specializing in the manufacture and modification of new energy vehicles.

Goldfish Motors, on the other hand, was established on April 29, 2024, with its registered address at Room 2413A, Building 2, No. 99, Jingsan North Road, Jinshui District, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. Its primary business is in the leasing industry.

The only commonality between the two is their geographical location in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. One is Haima, the other is Goldfish; both reside in water, but that's where the similarities end.

On May 27, the 13th Zhengzhou New Energy Vehicles, PV & ESS Exhibition 2025 kicked off at the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center. Goldfish Motors made its debut with its first pure electric sports car, garnering considerable attention. According to media reports, Goldfish Motors featured prominently in the official reports of the exhibition, even ranking behind Huawei AITO.

Goldfish Motors boasts an 11-year deep involvement in the new energy sector and plans for rapid market expansion in the coming years. It also claims to have collaborated extensively with Haima New Energy to establish an independent new energy vehicle brand in Henan Province.

Goldfish Motors further elaborates: "In 2025, Goldfish Motors and Haima New Energy will combine their strengths to engage in comprehensive cooperation encompassing product definition, styling design, product experience, marketing management, channel construction, and user experience for new energy vehicles." The company intends to launch two models in 2026 with a target sales volume of 50,000 units, three models in 2027 aiming for 100,000 units, and by 2028, it aims to achieve sales of 200,000 units.

What are the primary issues surrounding Goldfish Motors?

1. Lack of Production Qualifications?

The "Vehicle Manufacturer Credit Management System" and the "Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturer and Product Information Inquiry System" of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology do not list any information related to Goldfish Motors. This explains why Goldfish Motors "affiliated" itself with Haima New Energy, another Zhengzhou-based company.

When questioned about its plans to produce and sell cars without being registered with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Zhu Qinpeng, General Manager of Goldfish Motors, responded on June 9: "The company will proceed at its own pace, and a unified external statement will be issued in the future."

This isn't the first time Goldfish Motors has participated in the Zhengzhou Auto Show. In 2024, it introduced a microcar dubbed "the first car for young people." This microcar was the company's maiden product, and during the 2024 auto show, it announced plans for mass production and market launch in 2024, targeting lower-tier markets and focusing on promoting new energy vehicles in rural areas. However, nothing materialized.

2. Misrepresented Production Experience?

During an interview, Zhu Qinpeng stated: "Goldfish Motors has been deeply involved in the new energy field for over a decade, possessing extensive experience in vehicle research and development, and system integration. It integrates the research, development, production, and sales of power batteries. Goldfish Motors specializes in two-door, four-seat microcars in the A00 segment."

In its self-introduction, Goldfish Motors claims its main business encompasses the design, research, and development of new energy vehicles and system integration, as well as the research, production, and sales of power batteries. The company boasts a seasoned new energy vehicle research and development team with core members hailing from various prominent domestic automakers, boasting over 20 years of experience in car manufacturing.

How could Goldfish Motors, founded on April 29, 2024, claim over a decade of deep involvement in the new energy field? Moreover, attributing the experience of long-serving automotive industry employees to the company itself is unreasonable.

3. Misrepresented Technical Capabilities?

Goldfish Motors promotes its products as equipped with "safer solid-state batteries."

However, no solid-state battery cars are currently available on the market. Previously, Changan Automobile announced plans to gradually mass-produce all-solid-state batteries by 2027, and SAIC also stated that solid-state batteries would be installed in vehicles by 2027.

In September 2024, Lian Yubo, Chief Scientist, Chief Automotive Engineer, and Dean of the Automotive Engineering Research Institute at BYD, stated that the company has conducted in-depth research in the field of solid-state batteries, noting that widespread application would be "difficult in three years and realistic in five years." Thus, Goldfish Motors either possesses exceptional capabilities or is misleading the public.

According to Tianyancha, Goldfish Motors has a registered capital of 10 million yuan and a paid-in capital of 6 million yuan. The legal representative, Zhu Yange, serves as the Executive Director and General Manager, holding 40% of the shares. The Financial Director, Zhu Qinpeng, holds the remaining 60% of the shares. In 2024, the number of employees who paid social insurance was 0.

The actual controller of Goldfish Motors is Zhu Qinpeng, who also controls Henan Lantian Lvye New Energy Automobile Sales Service Co., Ltd., Shunjianeng Technology Co., Ltd., Henan Dawei Technology Co., Ltd., and Wuhu Shunjianeng Technology Co., Ltd. Notably, Henan Dawei Technology Co., Ltd. was wholly acquired by Zhu Qinpeng from an agricultural biotechnology company in 2022. Its primary business involves the wholesale and retail of pesticides, and it also holds a business license for the production of pesticide disinfectants.

Henan Dawei Technology Co., Ltd. shares the same phone number and email address with Shangqiu Dawei Chemical Plant, claiming to be the world's largest rodenticide company. Therefore, it's accurate to say that Goldfish Motors started as a rat poison seller.

Simultaneously, Goldfish Motors claims to be a member of Shunjianeng Technology Co., Ltd. According to Tianyancha, Shunjianeng Technology, established in 2019 and controlled by Zhu Qinpeng, primarily engages in the technical development and operation of charging piles and battery swap stations. As of 2025, the company has 6 employees insured and 32 patent applications.

While 32 patents might seem impressive, a closer look reveals that 23 of these are utility model patents! Only 8 are valuable invention patents, of which 4 have been authorized, 3 are under review, and 1 has been rejected.

What is Goldfish Motors' motive behind its grandiose participation in the auto show and public spectacle? The answer likely lies in "fundraising." At the Zhengzhou New Energy Auto Show, Goldfish Motors' large advertisements proclaimed that a 1,000 yuan investment could make one a "one-star partner," and 10,000 yuan could elevate one to "two-star partner" status.

Goldfish Motors also promises "risk-free" investments and "unconditional and unreasonable" refunds. Additionally, partners can earn thousands of yuan in commission for each 100,000 yuan vehicle they promote. In response, Zhu Qinpeng stated, "All information will be released uniformly, and the specific time will be notified later."

Regardless, Goldfish Motors has successfully garnered significant attention.
