On June 13, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced that Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. intends to recall 13,447 locally produced EQC vehicles manufactured between November 30, 2018, and September 17, 2022, effective from September 27, 2025.

Notably, this recall was prompted by a defect investigation initiated by SAMR. According to Five Star Car Reviews, since 2025, Mercedes-Benz has issued a total of 13 recall notices, encompassing approximately 145,000 vehicles.

On June 13, SAMR revealed that Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. had submitted a recall plan in accordance with the "Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products" and its implementing measures.

Recall No. S2025M0092I: Commencing September 27, 2025, 13,447 locally produced EQC vehicles manufactured between November 30, 2018, and September 17, 2022, will be recalled.

Certain vehicles within this recall may experience thermal runaway of the high-voltage battery under extreme conditions due to flaws in the battery management system software design, which could result in vehicle fires, posing a significant safety risk.

In response to the investigation, Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. will update the battery management system software of the affected vehicles through authorized dealers to mitigate the safety hazard.

The company advises users to set the vehicle's charging limit to no more than 80% until the official recall measures are implemented to ensure vehicle safety.

The Mercedes-Benz EQC, launched as Mercedes-Benz's first all-electric SUV based on the Generation EQ concept car, retains design elements of traditional fuel vehicles while incorporating innovative electric design. Sales data indicates that in October 2021, the EQC sold 1,072 units, the only month exceeding 1,000 units.

Data suggests that in August and November 2023, sales of the Mercedes-Benz EQC amounted to 1 and 2 units, respectively. In the second quarter of 2023, production of the Mercedes-Benz EQC ceased as planned, apparently failing to meet market expectations.

On June 13, SAMR also announced that Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. had submitted a recall plan.

Recall No. E2025M0087V: Starting June 30, 2025, 2,151 imported A-Class, CLA-Class, and GLA-Class vehicles manufactured between December 2, 2020, and December 12, 2022, will be recalled.

Certain vehicles within this recall may have turbocharger turbine housing nozzles that do not meet specifications due to manufacturing issues, potentially failing to meet emission standards under specific driving conditions, posing an emission hazard. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. will update the engine control unit software for the recalled vehicles free of charge through authorized dealers to address the emission hazard.

On the same day, SAMR further announced that Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. had submitted additional recall plans.

Recall No. S2025M0090V: Commencing June 13, 2025, 252 locally produced C-Class and GLC SUV vehicles manufactured between April 25, 2023, and August 17, 2023, will be recalled.

Recall No. S2025M0094V: Commencing June 13, 2025, 257 imported S-Class and EQE vehicles manufactured between February 8, 2023, and October 10, 2023, will be recalled.

Certain vehicles within these recalls had incorrect fuse boxes during previous recall repairs, which may cause related systems to malfunction, potentially leading to loss of vehicle power, affecting restraint systems, instrument displays, etc. Additionally, the risk of fire cannot be ruled out, posing a safety hazard. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. will inspect the affected fuse boxes for free through authorized dealers and replace them if necessary to eliminate the safety hazard.

Overall, Mercedes-Benz issued three recall announcements on the same day, encompassing a total of 16,100 vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz has consistently been a significant issuer of recalls, having issued 10 other "recall" announcements since 2025.

On March 28, SAMR announced that Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. had submitted a recall plan.

Recall No. S2025M0046I: Starting April 16, 2025, 12,308 locally produced EQA and EQB vehicles manufactured between April 1, 2021, and October 31, 2023, will be recalled.

Certain vehicles within this recall may experience reduced battery reliability due to fluctuations in the high-voltage battery production process. The control strategy of the existing battery management system software may cause these battery cells to bear excessive loads, increasing the risk of internal short circuits, potentially leading to vehicle fires and posing a safety hazard.

Similar to the recall of locally produced EQC vehicles, this recall by Mercedes-Benz was initiated after a defect investigation by SAMR. In response, Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. will update the battery management system software of the affected vehicles through authorized dealers to mitigate the safety hazard.

Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. advises users to set the vehicle's charging limit to no more than 80% until the official recall measures are implemented to ensure vehicle safety.

On March 28, Mercedes-Benz also announced another recall. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. intends to recall 54,664 imported S-Class vehicles manufactured between April 3, 2020, and March 23, 2022, starting March 28, 2025, marking the largest single recall by Mercedes-Benz in 2025.

Certain vehicles within this recall may have brake hoses on the left or right front wheel that do not meet durability requirements under high temperature and high humidity conditions, potentially leading to cracks and leakage of brake fluid from the corresponding brake circuit, affecting braking performance and posing a safety hazard. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. will replace the improved front brake hoses for free through authorized dealers to address the safety hazard.

According to Five Star Car Reviews, Mercedes-Benz has conducted a total of 13 recalls in 2025, involving approximately 145,000 vehicles.
