On September 28th, the Jetta M6 opened its doors for pre-sale.
The limited-time pre-sale prices span three variants, ranging from 80,800 to 99,800 yuan, firmly keeping the maximum price below the 100,000-yuan mark. The official launch is scheduled for mid-October. It's important to note: these are pre-sale prices, not the final official recommended retail prices (MSRP), and are subject to change.

465 Pro Progressive Edition: 80,800 yuan
555 Max Comfort Edition: 90,800 yuan
555 Ultra Intelligent Edition: 99,800 yuan
To be frank, these prices came as somewhat of a surprise.
For an extended period, joint-venture electric vehicles (EVs) have been perceived as unattainable for many. With prominent brand names, their prices have been inflated, while intelligent features have been sparingly offered. Facing the fierce competition from domestic EVs, they often find themselves on the defensive.

This time, Jetta has broken down that barrier, plunging headfirst into the fiercely competitive 80,000-100,000 yuan segment. Without relying on brand prestige to tell their story, but instead competing with tangible hardware, this approach is a rarity among joint-venture brands.
01 Affordable B-Class Dimensions and 'Democratized' Intelligent Driving as Key Highlights
When discussing this car, its size is an unavoidable topic.
With a length of 4,806mm and a wheelbase of 2,820mm, it boasts the dimensions of a standard B-class sedan. At this price point, these hardware specifications are highly competitive.

For ordinary buyers, especially those purchasing for family use, getting more value for less money is a core requirement. With ample rear space for elderly passengers and children, and sufficient trunk space for holiday luggage, a long wheelbase ensures a comfortable ride. The official interior space utilization rate is 91.3%, indicating a strong focus on practicality for family use without unnecessary frills.
The range comes in two CLTC variants: 465km and 555km, sufficient for urban commuting and weekend getaways. The electric motors offer two power outputs: 113kW and 145kW, clearly geared towards smooth and easy driving rather than aggressive acceleration. The battery is supplied by CALB, built on Jetta's pure electric architecture, with an emphasis on practical energy efficiency for stress-free daily commuting.
The most talked-about feature is the top variant, priced under 100,000 yuan, offering urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) assistance.
In the past, advanced urban intelligent driving was primarily a feature of vehicles priced above 150,000 yuan. Many 100,000 yuan models only offer basic L2 assistance in their high-end trims. The Jetta M6 is equipped with the Horizon 6M chip, supporting end-to-end navigation from parking spot to parking spot, with AEB coverage from 0 to 130km/h.
While the parameter table looks impressive, I maintain the view: offering features is one thing; whether they work well in practice is another. Impressive paper specs for intelligent driving do not guarantee smooth performance in real-world conditions, which remains to be seen in actual vehicle testing.

The exterior and interior design adopt a conservative approach, featuring a closed front fascia, full-width taillights, and a variety of color options. Without exaggerated styling or flashy cabins, the design clearly targets pragmatic families rather than young car enthusiasts.
02 Pre-sale Benefits Appear Attractive, but Potential Pitfalls Must Be Considered
This pre-sale offers a host of purchase incentives that may easily entice potential buyers, but don't let the benefits cloud your judgment—most come with time and quantity limits and are not permanent policies.

A 1,000 yuan deposit will deduct (offset) 2,000 yuan from the car price, directly saving 1,000 yuan;
The first 600 orders will receive a 4,000 yuan custom color-changing film, with the offer ending once slots are filled;
Customers can choose between a home charging wall box or a charge/discharge gun, plus bonus points;
Trade-in subsidies start from 4,000 yuan and are also available for existing Jetta owners purchasing an additional vehicle;
Pre-sale orders will enjoy priority in production scheduling and vehicle delivery.
Key Point: All benefits are limited to the pre-sale period.
When the official launch occurs in mid-October, whether the benefits will be reduced or the official recommended retail prices (MSRP) will increase remains uncertain. To fully capitalize on all discounts, one must participate in the pre-sale, but this also means accepting the uncertainties associated with a new vehicle earlier.
03 Beyond the Hype, Jetta Faces Several Real Challenges
Jetta's reputation during the internal combustion engine era needs no introduction—durable, easy to maintain, and affordable repairs—resonating deeply with many ordinary families.

However, the glory of internal combustion engine vehicles cannot be directly transferred to electric vehicles.
The M6 is Jetta's first pure electric sedan. The long-term stability of its three-electric system (battery, motor, electronic control), the smoothness of its infotainment system, and the much-hyped urban NOA all currently lack validation from a large number of real users. Essentially, the first batch of owners will serve as pioneering testers—an undeniable fact.

The powertrain is tuned for comfort and smoothness, likely disappointing users who prefer spirited driving and strong acceleration. Its positioning is clear: family commuting, urban travel, and suitability for the ride-hailing market—not designed for car enthusiasts.
Moreover, the market environment at the 80,000-100,000 yuan level is already fiercely competitive. Domestic pure electric and plug-in hybrid models abound, each wielding unique strengths. Spaciousness, democratized intelligent driving, and the backing of a joint-venture manufacturer are Jetta's three trump cards, but attractive cards do not guarantee victory.
This vehicle is produced at the FAW-Volkswagen Chengdu Plant, where millions of Jetta internal combustion engine vehicles have rolled off the line. Whether this mature manufacturing line can replicate its success for electric vehicles will be publicly tested by the M6.
04 Joint Ventures Lowering Their Stance: Just the Beginning of Intensified Competition
For a long time, joint-venture electric vehicles have found themselves in an awkward position.
Clinging to brand premiums, pricing themselves out of the market, lagging in intelligent features compared to domestic counterparts, and seeing sustained pressure on sales volumes.
The emergence of the Jetta M6 signals a shift in mindset among joint ventures. No longer holding onto arrogance, they are lowering their brand superiority, targeting the massive 100,000 yuan family car market in China, and competing head-on with domestic brands using hardware specifications.

However, the excitement generated by pre-sale prices does not equate to post-launch success.
Pre-sale prices ≠ final recommended retail prices (MSRP). A feature-packed specification sheet must ultimately prove itself in real-world driving scenarios. How NOA performs in complex road conditions, whether the range is accurate, and whether overall build quality can uphold Jetta's past reputation all require time to verify.
After its official launch in mid-October, whether this vehicle will emerge as a dark horse disrupting the 100,000 yuan market or remain a fleeting trend will soon be revealed.
