On August 24, a consumer took to a social media platform, expressing concern after discovering that the "SKhynix flagship store" on Taobao and Tmall had abruptly posted a notice of cessation of operations. The consumer was particularly worried about the warranty for a memory module they had recently purchased.

The homepage of the "SKhynix flagship store" revealed that the store intends to voluntarily cease operations on September 9, 2026, and has already removed all products from its inventory. Currently, the store cannot be directly located through a search on the Taobao platform.
Previously, the store's homepage had announced its plan to voluntarily cease operations and remove all products on September 9, 2026. Now, a direct search for the store's name on Taobao yields no results. A reporter attempted to contact the operating company, "Tianjin Hailishi Technology Co., Ltd.", as listed in the store's announcement on the afternoon of the 24th, but received no response.
According to available information, the store operating under the name "SKhynix flagship store" is not managed by SK Hynix itself. Business registration details indicate that Tianjin Hailishi Technology Co., Ltd. was established in Wuqing District, Tianjin, in July 2020, with a registered capital of 1 million yuan. Its legal representative is Wang Xiuli, and its operations encompass technical services and the sales of mechanical equipment.
SK Hynix, a South Korean original memory manufacturer, was founded in 1983 and acquired by the SK Group in 2012. Its primary businesses revolve around DRAM and NAND Flash.
Despite the similarity in names, legally, the two entities are distinct.
This raises a pivotal question: who will be accountable for the warranty that customers relied upon when purchasing memory?
The author reached out to several other stores selling SK Hynix memory on Taobao and JD.com. All of them uniformly stated that they are not affiliated with the closing store and that after-sales service is the responsibility of each individual store. The store that sold the product is tasked with providing after-sales service. With the Taobao store shutting down, the warranty promises it made may vanish along with it.
Does this imply that customers have no recourse? Taobao's official customer service stated that after the store closes, as long as the order remains within the after-sales validity period, customers can attempt to initiate an after-sales request on the order details page. If the option is no longer available or the seller fails to respond, customers can seek assistance from the platform's customer service.
The brand does possess an independent warranty system. SK Hynix's official website clearly outlines in its SSD terms that it provides a five-year limited warranty to the original purchaser, contingent upon the presentation of proof of purchase and a valid serial number. Logically, as long as the product is genuine and still under warranty, it should theoretically be possible to pursue official channels without depending on the original store.
In practice, however, there may be two potential pitfalls when seeking after-sales service.
The first pitfall pertains to identity verification. It remains uncertain whether this "flagship store" was officially authorized by SK Hynix, as the brand has not yet confirmed its status. If it is a third-party reseller, the brand's after-sales service may reject warranty claims on the grounds that the product was not purchased through an official channel and its authenticity cannot be verified. Missing invoices or proof of purchase can further complicate matters.
The second pitfall is more nuanced and linked to prevailing market conditions. SK Hynix's refund terms include a provision stating that for failures within the warranty period, if repairs or replacements are not chosen, the refund amount will be the lesser of the "original purchase price or fair market value."
This is not a concern during periods of stable prices. However, amid the current surge in memory prices, models like the Platinum P41 and P51 have seen their prices double or even more. When it comes time for warranty service, customers may only receive a refund based on the original purchase price and would be required to pay the difference to acquire a new product of the same specifications. On August 16, a news report highlighted a Reddit user whose SSD failed, and SK Hynix indicated they had no inventory for replacement and would only refund the original price.
If you have purchased memory or SSDs from this store, here are some steps you can take now:
First and foremost, save copies of order screenshots, payment receipts, product serial numbers, and chat records with the store. Don't procrastinate until the store is no longer accessible to start gathering these documents. Check if the after-sales option is still available on the Taobao order details page. If it is, initiate a request. If the system does not respond, contact Taobao customer service directly. The platform has access to the store's deposit.
If the product is still under warranty, visit SK Hynix's official website or reach out to their official customer service to inquire about the brand warranty. Have the serial number and proof of purchase ready in advance.
If communication proves unsuccessful, consider filing a complaint with the 12315 platform and the Consumer Association.
