Farsight, August 22 - According to Bloomberg, Apple is adjusting its Siri, Vision Pro, and some software teams, with over 200 positions affected. Sources familiar with the matter said the company is redirecting resources towards new devices and artificial intelligence, with around 100 positions being eliminated in the Vision Pro department, and another approximately 100 positions being cut from the Siri and software teams combined.

Apple confirmed to Bloomberg that the company is realigning some teams to adapt to business changes and improve user experience. Apple stated that new positions will be created during the adjustment process, affecting a small number of existing roles, and providing support such as internal transfer applications for affected employees. However, Apple did not disclose the total number of layoffs or the specific departmental list.

The gaming and content businesses of Vision Pro are the focus of these adjustments. Reports claim that Apple will essentially shut down the team responsible for Vision Pro's gaming features and downsize the immersive video production department. Immersive video was originally a key selling point for the headset, but each episode required multiple production crews consisting of Apple employees and external contractors, with production costs reaching millions of dollars. The limited number of active users has also put pressure on related businesses.

Apple will not completely stop producing immersive videos. The company will reduce internal production and encourage third parties to provide content for Vision Pro. Apple has also indicated to employees that Vision Pro and visionOS will not disappear. However, the short-term product focus will shift towards smart glasses that do not support immersive video and high-specification gaming. Bloomberg previously reported that the new generation of Vision Pro could be launched as early as the end of 2028.

The changes in the Siri team are more directly related to the new generation of AI assistants. The new version of Siri adopts a new technical architecture, leading to changes in talent and skill requirements. Apple has therefore eliminated some old positions, reallocated resources, and created new positions for the new architecture. The Intelligent Systems Experience team, which is part of the software engineering system and responsible for some device-side AI functions, has also been affected.

Overall, this round of adjustments indicates that Apple is not simply reducing its AI investment but is reallocating personnel following changes in technical architecture, while also compressing businesses within Vision Pro that have high costs and limited user demand.
