On June 26, Xiaomi held a groundbreaking product launch event, unveiling a dozen new products spanning various ecosystem scenarios. Among these, Xiaomi's highly anticipated AI Glasses made their debut.
Last year, at Baidu World, Baidu's CEO of Intelligent Life Group, Li Ying, introduced Baidu's AI Glasses, igniting excitement in the industry as a potential catalyst for the AI Glasses market boom. Xiaomi, another industry leader, garnered significant attention, with numerous insiders and media speculating on its AI Glasses strategy. Around the same time, reports emerged that Xiaomi had partnered with GoerTek in 2024, planning to release AI Glasses in Q2 2025.
In 2025, Xiaomi's AI Glasses have finally arrived. Lei Jun dubbed them the personal smart device of the next era, a portable AI entry point. They compete with Meta's Ray-Ban Stories, surpassing it in image presentation and battery life. Simultaneously, Xiaomi's launch of AI Glasses accelerates their adoption.
In 2025, many brands rushed to release AI Glasses, including tech companies specializing in AI Glasses and major brands like Baidu and Xiaomi. Various types and functions of AI Glasses emerged, but so did a series of issues. The most criticized aspects include limited battery life, privacy concerns, and the weight of the glasses. Whether Xiaomi can overcome these technical challenges and meet expectations is crucial for its success in the AI Glasses market.
Furthermore, Xiaomi's entry may reshape the current industry landscape and enhance the industry ecosystem.
01 The Next Generation of Personal Smart Devices
During the launch event, Lei Jun presented Xiaomi's AI Glasses in detail.
Pricing is a significant concern. Comparable Ray-Ban Stories are priced above 2500 yuan on e-commerce platforms, while Xiaomi's AI Glasses are priced at a competitive 1999 yuan. Although this exceeds the 1499 yuan predicted by the media, its cost-effectiveness advantage is undeniable compared to similar AI Glasses.
In terms of specifications, Xiaomi's AI Glasses utilize Qualcomm's AR1 chip. Addressing the common battery life issue in other AI Glasses, Xiaomi pairs it with a silicon-carbon negative electrode high-density battery, doubling the standby time and music playback duration, and increasing video recording time by 15%. For image presentation, Xiaomi's AI Glasses feature a 12-megapixel camera with an IMX681 sensor and a 1G+4P glass hybrid lens, supporting 2K 30fps recording and EIS electronic image stabilization.
For audio, Xiaomi's AI Glasses adopt stereo dual units, inverse sound field leakage prevention technology, and a five-microphone system to protect audio privacy and effectively mitigate wind noise.
However, as a niche tech trend, many people remain unsure about the capabilities of AI Glasses.
First-person perspective recording. While wearing Xiaomi's AI Glasses, users can use voice commands to activate the camera and recording functions, capturing moments from a first-person perspective. Additionally, Xiaomi's AI Glasses support long-duration live streaming, enabling users to broadcast anytime, anywhere.
AI interaction. Xiaomi's AI Glasses are equipped with XiaoAi, enabling global multimodal interaction combined with AI visual recognition for precise understanding and interaction. For example, when the wearer sees an unfamiliar object, they can ask the AI Glasses, which will accurately identify it and provide an answer. Beyond recognizing surrounding objects, Xiaomi's AI Glasses can answer various questions, as if the AI has eyes and can be queried at any time.
Furthermore, Xiaomi's AI Glasses can translate, scan codes for payment, record users' personal information, and provide personalized services.
It's worth mentioning that Xiaomi's AI Glasses also boast a sleek design, with a frame shape suitable for Asians, ensuring comfort without pinching the head or ears, and weighing only 40 grams. Users can adjust the lens color by simply saying, "Make the lens color darker." Xiaomi's AI Glasses come with electrochromic and colored lenses, supporting gesture or voice control for color adjustment, with four color settings available.
02 Xiaomi's Motivation for Entering the Market
Meta's collaboration with Ray-Ban to launch AI Glasses sparked a new wave of tech products. Since 2025, over 50 companies have entered the AI Glasses market. Is Xiaomi ready for this move?
As a leading mobile phone manufacturer, Xiaomi possesses inherent technological advantages. Xiaomi has accumulated robust algorithms in image processing and image understanding, previously showcased in its mobile phones' camera functions. As excellent camera capabilities are a crucial factor influencing consumer purchases, Xiaomi has indeed leveraged this advantage and highlighted it in its promotions.
On the other hand, Xiaomi's AI Glasses are not isolated from its other products. Xiaomi's launch event was titled "People, Cars, Homes Full Ecosystem Launch Event," unveiling products like the Xiaomi YU7, AI Glasses, and Xiaomi Mi Band. Xiaomi has long been developing a full-scenario ecosystem, encompassing mobile phones, watches, TVs, air conditioners, and robot vacuum cleaners, all of which can be connected and uniformly debugged via mobile phones or smart speakers. However, glasses offer a unique advantage over mobile phones and smart speakers.
Compared to mobile phones, AI Glasses shorten the time required to issue commands, freeing users' hands. With just a voice command, they can connect with other devices. Although smart speakers have similar capabilities, their use is limited to household scenarios, with a low frequency of use, making them inefficient for connecting all devices.
AI Glasses effectively bridge the gap between mobile phones and smart speakers, integrating their advantages and serving as a pivotal component in Xiaomi's full ecosystem of people, cars, and homes. Achieving such an ultimate experience with AI Glasses will likely take time, but it's undoubtedly a strategic move for Xiaomi to build a full-ecosystem scenario and a compelling reason for consumers to choose Xiaomi's AI Glasses.
More importantly, Xiaomi has a price advantage. As a major mobile phone manufacturer, Xiaomi can leverage its supply chain and delivery scale to reduce costs, occupying more market share with lower prices and creating widely adopted AI Glasses.
03 Industry Changes with Major Players' Entry
During the 2024 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, Zhou Hongyi, the founder of 360, predicted that "every internet company will make a pair of glasses in the future, forming a competitive landscape of 'hundred glasses war.'"
His words are gradually coming true in 2025. According to public information and industry sources, multiple companies are currently advancing smart glasses projects. Among them, ByteDance, Alibaba, Lenovo, and others have also launched their AI Glasses, gradually forming the "hundred glasses war" landscape.
Xiaomi's entry into the market as a major mobile phone manufacturer may bring new impacts. Firstly, Xiaomi's entry may drive technological innovation. For instance, many previous AI Glasses suffered from insufficient battery life, preventing users from wearing them for extended periods. Xiaomi's AI Glasses enhance battery life, with a typical usage time of 8.6 hours and a battery capacity 64.3% larger than Meta's AI Glasses, also improving charging speed. This will push other manufacturers to accelerate R&D and technological advancements for AI Glasses.
It also accelerates industry reshuffling. For startups, large companies have supply chain resources, substantial financial support, and brand scale advantages, while startups may lack comprehensive capabilities, putting them at a disadvantage in the current market. For example, Shanji previously delayed the release of its AI Glasses due to supply chain and production issues. Startups need to differentiate themselves by addressing product pain points not covered by other brands and shaping their unique advantages. This will eliminate companies with insufficient technology and funding, while other major mobile phone manufacturers may swiftly enter the AI Glasses market, presenting a new industry landscape.
Furthermore, Xiaomi's entry may mark a turning point from early adopters to mass adoption of AI Glasses. As a major mobile phone manufacturer with scale advantages and brand trust, Xiaomi's launch of AI Glasses introduces them to a broader consumer base, deepening their understanding and stimulating the market, thereby accelerating the popularization of AI Glasses.
